Hi Dom,

I know you were asking about Uniden's 'Close Call'. I have had 2 Uniden scanners with this feature (a UBC92XLT and currently a UBC3500XLT) and I would definitely recommend it. TBH this feature is the only reason to buy any scanner these days IMO.

The detection range is similar to an Optoelectronics frequency counter and just as accurate IME, so from about a few yards up top a mile or more is the typical range - it all depends on the background RF level and TX power involved. Near to a tower with constant TXs then then you may struggle to get a hit. I find the range is ideal.

But yes, definitely recommended. It is very 'powerful' and well thought out, unlike many features these days. I've discovered quite a number of 'new' frequencies with mine (great in town centres with the radio in a pocket or bag) and I would never go back to just a frequency counter. Email me if you want any info.
